Restoration of Interhemispheric Resting-state fMRI Connectivity after Patrial Corpus Callosotomy via Intrahemispheric Reorganization

چکیده
posterior partial callosotomy and sham surgery at post-surgery day 7 and day 28. The seeds were centered at left/right primary somatosensory cortex (S1)/primary visual cortex (V1), respectively. The transected part of the corpus callosum is indicated in red in the sagittal planes (top left panel) and the anatomical regions of S1 and V1 are highlighted in 3D atlas space (bottom left panel). At day 28, both callosotomy groups exhibited apparent expansions in intraregional rsfMRI connectivity as compared to sham, as indicated by the increased sizes of the clusters covering the seeds.

Brain resting-state functional MRI connectivity: Morphological foundation and plasticity
Despite the immense ongoing efforts to map brain functional connections and organizations with resting-state functional MRI (rsfMRI), the mechanisms governing the temporally coherent rsfMRI signals remain unclear. In particular, there is a lack of direct evidence regarding the morphological foundation and plasticity of these rsfMRI derived connections. In this study, we investigated the role of...

متن کاملLow frequency fluctuations reveal integrated and segregated processing among the cerebral hemispheres
Resting-state functional magnetic resonance imaging (fMRI) has provided a novel approach for examining interhemispheric interaction, demonstrating a high degree of functional connectivity between homotopic regions in opposite hemispheres. However, heterotopic resting-state functional connectivity (RSFC) remains relatively uncharacterized. In the present study, we examine non-homotopic regions, ...
متن کاملRecovery of sensorimotor function after experimental stroke correlates with restoration of resting-state interhemispheric functional connectivity.
Despite the success of functional imaging to map changes in brain activation patterns after stroke, spatiotemporal dynamics of cerebral reorganization in correlation with behavioral recovery remain incompletely characterized. Here, we applied resting-state functional magnetic resonance imaging (rs-fMRI) together with behavioral testing to longitudinally assess functional connectivity within neu...
متن کاملBrief Communications Loss of Resting Interhemispheric Functional Connectivity after Complete Section of the Corpus Callosum
Slow ( 0.1 Hz), spontaneous fluctuations in the functional magnetic resonance imaging blood oxygen level-dependent (BOLD) signal have been shown to exhibit phase coherence within functionally related areas of the brain. Surprisingly, this phenomenon appears to transcend levels of consciousness. The genesis of coherent BOLD fluctuations remains to be fully explained. We present a resting state f...
